    • Hydraulic, air and electric brake troubleshooting and repair
  • 3-5+ years of supervisory experience
  • Deep knowledge of regulations; DOT certification, a history of performing DOT inspections
  • Excellent leadership skills including the ability to coach, mentor and develop a strong team
  • Strong communication skills; ability to work with diverse personalities, various skill levels, and multiple levels and titles 
  • Must have experience with computerized diagnostic equipment

Your Role
Reporting to the Shop Foreman, as Shop Foreman, 2nd Shift, you will supervise and develop the 8-person, second-shift shop team including mechanics, fabricators and shop help. You will serve as a working leader also responsible for maintaining and repairing a fleet of trucks and heavy equipment, including pavers, backhoes, rollers, excavators and more.  Quick question for you - click here

The daily workflow, a mix of preventative maintenance and repairs, to be completed both in-shop and at our service yards, will come from the Shop Foreman. It will be your responsibility to assign the work and follow up, ensuring it was completed and accurately documented. Generally, you will remain in the shop and work alongside the team, completing complex and other repairs, and training and mentoring team members in order to increase their individual skills and the overall competency of the team. Specific responsibilities will include:
  • Repairing and maintaining trucks, machinery and equipment
  • Directing, training and coaching the second shift shop team
  • Performing general and special maintenance, including hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic diagnoses and repairs to light to medium-duty trucks
  • Completing routine lube, oil, filter inspections as well as annual DOT inspections on trucks, machinery and equipment as necessary
  • Assisting in or completing the fabrication of necessary parts and tools required or needed to complete a specific task
  • Completing repairs in the shop and in the field, on job sites
  • Keeping accurate maintenance records of all repairs
  • Complying with all safety regulations and practices preventive safety measures
The second shift runs from 4:00 PM to approximately 2:00 AM, Monday through Friday, though the schedule can ebb and flow, typically expanding during the peak season and reducing a bit in the winter months. Flexibility will be key. Daily, you'll arrive before your team to meet with your supervisor and review the shift's work plan.

Shop, Team and Equipment
The fully enclosed, temperature-controlled shop in which you and the second shift team will work includes three drive-through bays with 14-ft roll-up doors, a wash bay, fabrication bay, and air, oil and power hose reels that stretch from bay to bay. The team supports a fleet including 80 commercial vehicles ranging from Class 1, light-duty trucks to Class 8 cement trucks. The fleet includes a mix of older and newer trucks and equipment with varying levels of emissions. Likewise, the team has members with a mix of experience from a fabricator being cross-trained as a mechanic working on pavers to newer mechanics developing their skills to a more seasoned mechanic.
