To be a good fit for the role of Diesel Mechanic, you will have:
  • 5+ years of diesel mechanic, journeyman experience including:
    • Skill maintaining, diagnosing and repairing trucks and heavy equipment  Quick question for you - click here
    • Manual transmission diagnoses and service
    • Hydraulic, air and electric brake troubleshooting and repair; brake certification  Quick question for you - click here
  • Knowledge of regulations; DOT certification, a history of performing DOT inspections 
  • Experience with computerized diagnostic equipment
  • Your own set of tools (up to 2" sockets and wrenches, 1/2" & 3/4" drives)
  • A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record; CDL Class A preferred
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
  • Schedule flexibility to meet the seasonal peak and other business demands
This is a day shift position working 10-hour shifts, Monday through Friday, with additional Saturday work, depending on demand. Demand tends to ebb and flow, particularly seasonally, so schedule flexibility and willingness to work overtime will be essential.

Reporting to the Shop Foreman, as Diesel Mechanic, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing a fleet of trucks and heavy equipment, including pavers, backhoes, rollers, excavators and more. Your duties will include:
  • Performing general and special maintenance, including hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic diagnosis and repair on trucks and equipment in both the shop and field
  • Completing routine inspections on trucks and equipment as necessary
  • Keeping accurate records in the shop maintenance system (RTA) of all repairs
  • Assisting with or completing the fabrication of parts and/or tools necessary to complete a specific task
  • Ordering and organizing parts and maintaining stock of inventory. Following up with the Shop Foreman to ensure all needed parts and/or supplies have been properly documented, ordered, and/or received
  • Remaining at shop on designated late night until all crews have returned
  • Complying with and following all safety regulations
  • Performing other duties as required
You will work in a fully enclosed, temperature-controlled shop that includes three drive-through bays with 14-ft roll-up doors, a wash bay, fabrication bay, and air, oil and power hose reels that stretch from bay to bay. The team supports a fleet including 79 commercial vehicles ranging from Class 1, light-duty trucks to Class 8 dump trucks and 82 trailers. The fleet includes a mix of older and newer trucks and equipment with varying levels of emissions. Likewise, the team has members with a mix of experience including a fabricator and three other mechanics. Your success will be evident through the quality and timeliness of your repairs (i.e. next to no comebacks).
